We are Leveraging Technology Today to Improve Health Care Tomorrow The Health Care Coalition Network of Lafayette County, A Rural Health Care Network, has developed a Health Information Technology (HIT) Committee to help improve health care delivery in the County.
HIT is responsible for developing a strategic plan for identifying and addressing the health information technology (HIT) needs of providers and patients. These needs will directly impact the county's health care services by offering continuity from one provider to another—enabling patient-centered care to improve the identification, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
To date, the HIT Committee has supported the launch of two major initiatives:
Electronic Prescriptions (eRx)
The HCC's HIT committee worked with local providers to purchase hardware and software to roll out the eRx program. Within six months, the county went from virtually no providers utilizing eRx to practically a half dozen providers utilizing the technology.
Emergency Department Information System
Phase two of HIT implementation was the installation of the Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) that automated the entire emergency room experience, from triage to discharge for Lexington-based Lafayette Regional Health Center (LRHC). The facility is a critical access hospital that serves all of Lafayette County and surrounding areas.
EMRs and Telehealth
Pathways Community Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., is utilizing electronic medical records (EMRs) in their local offices. Currently, Pathways is working to install Telehealth technology at their Lexington site.
