LRHC Improves ER Efficiencies with New Electronic Information System

Emergency room care at Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, MO recently received a huge injection with the roll-out of a new, fully implemented emergency department information system (EDIS). This new system replaces traditional ways of dictating and charting patient care with an electronic, template-based documentation system that allows real-time charting, and enables medical teams instant access to critical patient information.

With this new system, LRHC is leading the nation’s rural hospitals of the same size in next generation, electronic medical systems. According to industry reports, approximately 40% to 50% have some technology implemented in the emergency department. Of the 4,000 hospital emergency room departments in the United States, approximately 25% have fully implemented emergency department information systems—with the majority consisting of larger hospitals.
